Course Description

In this session, we will take a glimpse into the future and discuss what the IT department of an Accounting Firm will look like in 5, 10, 30+ years. Everything is changing and what your firm is doing today will not support you in the technology of tomorrow. What impact with the cloud have? Artificial intelligence? Robots? Other disruptions we have yet to see?

Presenter and Moderator Bios
Byron K Patrick, CPA.CITP, CGMA, CCA, MCSE started his career in 1999 as a public practicing CPA. He eventually embraced his passion for technology and merged it with his experiences in public accounting and transitioned to the IT Director of a mid-sized CPA firm in 2004. Later, in July of 2008, Byron established Simplified Innovations Inc to focus on servicing the needs of CPA Firms, which he sold in 2016. He joined Network Alliance to lead their business development in the CPA industry.

Byron is known nationally as an industry thought leader and is a multi-year recipient of the CPA Practice Advisor’s 40 under 40 award. Additionally, Byron is a frequent speaker at many State and National conferences regarding various topics relating to technology in the accounting industry. He has contributed to many industry publications over the years.

Byron has been an active member of the Maryland Association of CPA’s since the beginning of his career. He is one of the founding members and past Chair of the MACPA’s New/Young Professionals Network (NYPN). Byron is a previous Chairman of the Board of Directors for the MACPA. In addition, Byron is a member of the technology committee and has participated in a number other taskforces and initiatives over the years. Byron credits much of his professional success to the support and mentorship of the MACPA.

Byron has also been actively involved on a national level with the American Institute of CPA’s. He earned the Certified Information Technology Professional credential in 2006 and is currently a member of AICPA Council, PCPS Executive Committee and was previously a member of the Information Management and Technology Assurance Executive Committee. He has also been a member of the Future of Peer Review task force and is a CPA Ambassador.

Cost
$25.00 for CPAFMA Members / $40.00 for Non-Members / Free for PAFMs

Delivery System

  • All programs are delivered using the Zoom platform.
  • Confirmations will include log-in instructions.
  • Participants are able to participate using any device with an Internet connect (if the device does not have speakers, the participant can also dial-in) or they can participate with audio only by dialing in.
  • All registrants will receive a link to the MAPCast’s recording by email within 48 business hours of event’s conclusion.
  • There will be assistance available to help with technical and connectivity issues up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Registration

All registration is done on-line with the names and email addresses of each individual guest. Log-in details will be emailed to all registrants approximately 1-2 days prior to each session.

Refund Policy

CPAFMA will not issue refunds for MAPCasts. If a registrant is unable to participate in the MAPCast and sends written notice to info@cpafma.org 48 hours prior to the session, a credit will be provided for a future MAPCast. Alert the CPAFMA staff member monitoring the MAPCast if technical difficulties are encountered and technical support will be provided to eliminate problems with future MAPCasts.

Additional Information

Live participation is required for CPE credit and polling questions must be answered to show active participation. All registrants will receive an email following the session with links to the slides and/or handouts, and a link to the MAPCast recording (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to participate in the live session, you can still watch the recorded session, but you will not be eligible for CPE credits.
